Goreville Community Unit School District #1 is located at 201 S. Ferne Clyffe Road in Goreville, Illinois and houses Goreville Elementary School, Goreville Middle School and Goreville High School. Goreville CUSD 1 is comprised of grades Pre-K-12 and has literally doubled in size over the past two decades and, as a result, has constructed eight different additions in order to accommodate the growth and to provide the best possible learning environment for our students. In 1998 the District constructed a new Media Center along with a new state-of the art science lab. In 2000, the District constructed a new high school addition with eight new classrooms including another new science lab and a business classroom with 26 networked computer work-stations. In 2004, the District constructed a new cafeteria/multi-purpose room which also serves as the large meeting area for the community. In 2007, the District underwent a gym renovation and construction project that added 600 more seats to the high school gymnasium and made both the high school and elementary gyms two top-of-the- line athletic facilities that our students and community can be proud of for athletic events as well as our plays and musicals. Then in 2009, the District constructed a state-of-art age-appropriate Early Learning Center for all students ages 3-5 to have an opportunity to gain a head-start on their precious education.

The district, located in northern Johnson County in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest encompasses the communities of Goreville, Tunnel Hill, and the Lake of Egypt area to cover 70 square miles. The Village of Goreville, home of Ferne Clyffe State Park, has approximately 1200 residents while the Lake of Egypt and Tunnel Hill areas have approximately 5,000 residents. While the school serves as the centerpiece to the community…hosting large benefit dinners, concerts, political fundraisers, etc., the Village of Goreville maintains a clean, safe environment for children to live and learn. The City Park has a skatepark, ball courts, two ballfields and a youth football and soccer field that functions as both a part of the Johnson County Youth League as well as the home field to the Goreville Lady Blackcats High School and Junior High Softball Teams.

Goreville Unit #1 boasts a very technologically advanced school system, in fact, in 2012 we were named an International SMART Showcase School and in 2014 a "Future Ready" Top 50 School due to our commitment to engaged learning.
