GOREVILLE SCHOOLS ADDS TECHNOLOGY

Goreville Schools has turned its Elementary, Jr. High, and High School classrooms into a state-of-the-art technology showcase and gained access to a new 30 station mobile computer lab!  Each core classroom has a new interactive white board called a SMARTBoard that essentially turns the white board into a 77" widescreen computer monitor that has touch screen capabilities like an IPhone or the new IPad.  Students and teachers are now able to manipulate numbers, letters, pictures, icons, etc. using their hands and the computers to create a visual stimulus to enhance student learning.  Teachers also have access to new SMARTResponse systems that gives each student in the class a remote control to answer questions posed by the teacher and gives immediate feedback to the teacher and students regarding their mastery of the subject being taught.  In addition, now all elementary and Jr. High classrooms have an advanced audio system to amplify the teacher's voice and provides audio for the SMARTBoard systems.  The new Mobile Lab is a $20,000 30-laptop station on a mobile cart that teachers can check out of the library.  The lab, supplied with a grant obtained by the Goreville FFA, has 30 networked internet accessible wireless laptops that also communicate with a wireless printer on the cart.

CONGRATULATIONS GOREVILLE STUDENTS!!!

Read for the Record Day was a great success!

Pre-K through 3rd grade students filled the elementary gym to read Anna Dewdney's book Llama Llama Red Pajama.  Ms. Bigler began reading the book as the students joined in to read in unison.  Altogether, there were 232 students and teachers reading the book at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 26. Counting 4th and 5th grades and a few Jr. High classes, we had 331 students read the book to hopefully help Jumpstart set a world record.  Way to go, Goreville!

Afterwards, students took turns going outside to meet and pet Baby Llama.  Thanks to Mrs. Harner for helping us get a llama for the day and to Jeri Maze who answered questions and cared for the llama throughout the day.
