Ray Kerley...2012 Citizen of the Year |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Pictured L-R Jason Beckmann, Village Truestee & Ray Kerley
The 2012 Goreville Citizen of the Year is….Ray Kerley
"For his Kindness & Compassion"
Ray spends hours upon hours volunteering at the Ministerial Alliance and Senior Citizens' building. He is not only at the Ministerial Alliance when it's open, but goes by almost every day to check to see if someone has dropped off donations and then carries it all out of the weather. The volunteer hours that Ray puts in at different places is more like a full-time job. The community is glad to have Ray and all of those who help make Goreville a great place to live.
Here are some of the comments others said about Ray Kerley...
"Volunteers for the senior site and Ministerial Alliance"
"All his work with the Ministerial Alliance"
"His extra ordinary devotion to working at the Ministerial Alliance and his church"
"Volunteers many hours at the Goreville Senior building"
"He spends a lot of time working at the Ministerial Alliance here in town."
"A good Christian man"
"Contributes to the senior site at Goreville"
"Helps coordinate the Ministerial Alliance Thrift store program"
A Citizen of the Year should exhibit one or more the following: Love & Support for the Community; Kindness & Compassion; Represent all that is good about Goreville; and/or Contribute in some form to help make Goreville a better place to live.
CONGRATULATIONS TO Ray Kerley...

Family Dollar coming to Goreville!!!! |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Family Dollar Corporation, based out of Matthews, NC, with over 7,100 locations, is currently building their newest Family Dollar Store in Goreville.
Founded in 1959, by Leon Levine the first Family Dollar store open in Charlotte, North Carolina. A simple concept of Family Dollar from the start is, "the customers are the boss, and you need to keep them happy."
The developer, Team Development LLC based in Denham Springs, LA met with former business owner Mike Walker and the Village of Goreville leadership, in order to help bring the new business to town. The Goreville Family Dollar Store will be located at 101 S. Broadway, the former Walker's Home Supply location. The 8,320 square feet Family Dollar Store will join other Family Dollar stores in 44 states. Family Dollar offer a large assortment of the most popular brands such as Procter & Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills and Nabisco at low everyday prices. Family Dollar Corporation chose the Goreville location due to the rapid growth in the immediate area and the need for easily accessible services. "Being able to bring a name-brand retail store to our community is a blessing for all of us especially now due to the traffic congestion we are seeing in the Marion, Carbondale and Paducah communities." stated Mayor Larry Vaughn, "We are very aggressive right now at trying to bring to Goreville all of the services our Goreville, Lake of Egypt and other surrounding communities might need and adding Family Dollar to the mix will help attract even more service oriented businesses to our community."
